Breast enlargement (breast implants)
Breast hypoplasia happens when the patient's morphology insufficiently develops the breast volume. Hypoplasia can be present from puberty or appear after significant weight loss or after pregnancy. Hypoplasia is usually an isolated condition but in some cases, it is also associated with ptosis. Ptosis is the excess of skin and the collapse of the gland and will also be corrected during the same procedure.
The surgery inserts a breast implant to increase the volume of the breast. The procedure lasts for an hour and is done under general anesthesia. A short and unobtrusive incision is made under the aureole or in the armpit (the axillary cavity). The implant is usually placed behind the large pectoral muscle or in some cases in front of it.
The implant can either be pre-filled with silicon and have smooth or textured walls (these are most frequently used); be blown up with physiological serum or be surrounded by a polyurethane covering. The postoperative recovery isn't very painful or stressful. There may be the pain for three to four days, but this reduces soon, the dressing is removed after two days, and the breasts regain a normal curve within a few days. A problem called "shell swelling" can occur when the implants harden and their consistency changes. This can be reduced by placing the implant behind the muscle and using particular types of implants.
There're also several things that should be kept in mind. The existence of the root does not, in any case, change the features of a breast which last natural i.e. or remains acute to hormonal variations and, as necessary, allows for breastfeeding. Increasing the volume of a breast by using an implant doesn't put proper floppy breasts (ptosis). This trouble lacks a breast lift which must be dealt with at the same time. Where the breast retains its suppleness, and there is no "shell swelling", the outcome is particularly satisfying from the aesthetic point of view. In various unusual cases, it is probable to offer lipo-filling using autologous fat, also typically for the function of rectifying breast asymmetry in the background of a reorganization than to (or "intending to") somewhat rising the body of the breasts. In a case of breast hypoplasia with balanced ptosis, it is achievable to eliminate the additional skin over the areola and cap the scarring to a circle it.
Who Is It For?
Women decide for a breast enlargement for many reasons such as discontent with their natural size or form, breast asymmetry or mammary gland decrease following breastfeeding. Given the fact that the breast size and shape changes constantly during a woman’s life and, what’s more, every woman has a different idea of their ideal looks, it is always essential to get a high quality individual consultation during which the surgeon and the client decide for suitable implants (while taking into consideration their type, shape, and size), ideal operating procedure and the apt place to introduce the implants, either under the mammary gland or muscle. The result of the operation considerably improves the client’s self-confidence and satisfaction. Breast enlargement cosmetic surgery is one of the most common procedures performed annually around the world.
Make sure you will get time off work (depending on the operation and the nature of your job). You will need support and help from the family and friends in the recovery period (avoiding physically demanding jobs, important social events, etc.); if needed (and possible), arranging for children care. No acute illnesses should occur in the period of at least three weeks before the planned breast enlargement surgery (a viral disease, a cold, etc.). If so, it is necessary to inform us.
Get a baseline mammogram before surgery and perhaps one after surgery to help detect any future changes in your breast tissue. One week before the operation, do not take any medications containing acetylsalicylic acid (such as Acylpyrin, Aspirin, Alnagon, Miron, etc.). It might increase bleeding during and after the breast augmentation surgery. Ideally, one month (minimum two weeks) before the breast enlargement procedure women should stop taking hormonal contraception or replacement to prevent thromboembolism. Consult your GP or your surgeon in Prague regarding other medications you take regularly. Bring your usual medicine and pills, if possible in the original packaging. It is recommended to stop or considerably reduce smoking two weeks before the operation. If you are a smoker, don’t forget to bring nicotine patches with you. Breast enlargement surgery requires the use of elastic bra after the procedure. You can either bring your own, or you can buy them at the clinic. We recommend buying them after the consultation with your surgeon who will try the elastic garments on and decide which size and type are suitable for you. Ideally, women should not have their period when operated. If they do, they need to inform their doctor.
How Is It Done?
A breast enhancement operation involves surgically inserting breast implants behind the natural breast tissues to increase the size of the breasts. Breast enlargement procedures are performed to create better symmetry and make the breasts larger, firmer and fuller. During the consultation, the client together with the surgeon decides whether the incision is made on the lower border of the areolae, in the armpit or the under-breast fold. Then a silicone implant is placed under the mammary gland or muscle. We only work with the highest quality implants. During suturing non-absorbable or, absorbable materials can be used. In the case of non-absorbable materials, the sutures must be extracted within two or three weeks after the operation, while absorbable sutures dissolve in the body on their own, and their advantage is also the fact that the scar is fine.
The operation is performed under general anesthetic and takes one to two hours.
Breast augmentation procedure requires one overnight stay at the clinic and a two-week rest period. A post-operative check-up is done at the clinic on the third to fifth day after leaving it. Then individual compressive bandages are worn – non-stop for two months and later only when exercising, and the client starts doing pressure massages. It is not advisable to sleep on the side, and also all movements involving lifting arms up should be avoided. In the first three to four months after the operation, it is not recommended to go to a swimming pool as there is a high risk of acquiring an infection. Restrict excessive use of arms for at least 5-7 days. No lifting above the head for two weeks.
- Usually, your temperature may rise slightly for two to three days. An analgesic can easily ease the discomfort connected to any possible pain in the area operated upon.
- You might experience pain in the field of the scars. This is quite common, but an analgesic can ease it. Expect some drainage onto the sterile-strips covering the incisions. You are likely to feel tired for a few days, but you should be up and around in 4-5 days, but maximum discomfort will occur in the first few days after surgery. You may experience some numbness of nipples and operative areas and a burning sensation in your nipples for about two weeks.
- There may be temporary soreness, tightness, swelling and bruising as well as some discomfort in the incision area and your breasts may be sensitive to stimulation for a few weeks. Most of the discoloration and swelling will subside in 4-6 weeks. Scars may be red and angry looking for six months, but these usually soften and fade over time.
Back To Normal
Following uneventful recovery, it is possible to return to work and resume usual activities within two weeks of the operation. Regular physical activity, including easy exercise, can be returned within four weeks; strenuous exercise not until at least six weeks after the surgery.
The resulting shape and size of the breasts can be considered final only after two to three months. The result is then permanent.
Some clients may find out that the implant insertion alone cannot solve their problems with breast size and particularly their shape; in these cases, it is recommended to combine augmentation with breast uplift to achieve the ideal result.
